Bacteria |
| Bacteria: |
Any of a large group of one-celled organisms that lack a cell
nucleus, reproduce by fission or by forming spores, and in some cases
cause disease
|
| Flagellum: |
A long, threadlike appendage, especially a whip like extension of
certain cells or unicellular organisms that functions as an organ of
locomotion
|
| Binary Fission: |
A method of asexual reproduction that involves the splitting of a parent
cell into two approximately equal parts.
|
| Asexual Reproduction: |
The kind of reproduction in which
it is not necessary to have two parents to produce offspring. The
reproduction of a single-celled organism through fission, and the
production of spores in some plants and plantlike organisms, are examples
of asexual reproduction.
|
| Sexual Reproduction: |
reproduction involving the union
of a male and a female mature sexual reproductive cell |
| Conjugation: |
The temporary union of two bacterial cells during which one cell
transfers part or all of its genome to the other
|
| Endospore: |
A small asexual spore (reproductive body of an organism), as that
formed by some bacteria
|
| Pasteurization: |
Heating a fluid, such as milk, for a specific period to kill
