Physical Education Curriculum

Curriculum:

At Holy Rosary, we offer a balanced curriculum, which includes a wide variety of activities.  All activities are taught in a full range of skill levels as to accommodate individual student’s needs.  Skills and challenges are presented so students can work individually regardless of skill level.  The process of learning useful skills is emphasized.  Competition is de-emphasized.  Students are encouraged to experience the joy of participating and playing for the sake of activity and not for how they measure up against others.  The variety of activities and levels of skill allow each student to experience success on a regular basis.

The purpose of physical education is to teach students a healthy lifestyle. My goal is to get children physically active and teach them how to lead healthy lives when they are young and into their adult years.

Lesson Plan Format:
Each P.E. lesson is broken into three parts.

1.) Introductory Activity: warm-up to get students active and moving around.
2.) Lesson Focus:  teaches development of a physical skill for a lifetime.
3.) Activity:  reinforces skills through the use of a fun activity, min-games, or games.

Overall goals for my P.E. classes:
1.)  Be highly active.
2.)  Be highly successful.
3.)  Have FUN!

Safety:
I am planning on covering a wide variety of sport, and skill theme units throughout the year.    Each unit will, in some way, require your child to move about the gym or playing field safely and under control.  In order to aid in their safe movement I do request that students wear tennis shoes to P.E. every day.  Flip flops, high heel shoes, and boots do not allow for safe movement.
