Daily Participation & Grading

Daily Participation Points:

Each student receives 5 points per day.

Active participation is expected unless a student is sick or injured. A note from the parent or guardian will excuse the student from class. If a student will not be able to participate for more than three days a physician’s note is required.  If a student should become sick or injured during class he or she should notify the teacher immediately.

Grading:

Students will be graded A, B, C, D, F in three areas: Attendance/Participation, Written and Skill Assessments.

Attendance/Participation: Credit will be given each class session for attendance, appropriate dress, effort, attitude, and cooperation.  Students will be assessed daily according to the following guidelines.

4 – Hustles, uses time efficiently to pursue goals, noticeable improvement in skill level, stays on task, and involves others

3 – Effort is fairly consistent but may lose focus occasionally, shows some improvement in skill level, corrects off-task behavior immediately, and involves others

2 – Effort only if teacher is watching, if winning, etc., little skill development, needs several reminders to get back on task

1 – Minimal effort, stands around in activity, goes through the motions, gives excuses, contributes little to team play, doesn’t dress but participates

0 – Avoids participation, excessive socializing, takes others off task, negatively affects classroom instruction

Written Assessments: These will be given occasionally throughout the year.

Skill Assessments: Assessments will be designed to measure the student’s ability to perform basic skills and apply game strategies specific to the activity.
