The Emmaus ministry is an expression of our awareness that caring is a responsibility of the whole faith community. It is care initiated by the caregiver after referral by pastoral staff of Holy Rosary. Emmaus Ministers are trained volunteers from our faith community. The Emmaus Minister responds to the person cared for by journeying with them where they are at. This includes the perceptions, needs, capacities, interests, and decisions of that person. We act as a facilitator helping a person recognize their own inner resources and use them. We do not do things for them.
The needs for Emmaus Ministers are in several different areas. This includes grief after any kind of loss, health concern, parenting, loneliness, shut-ins, care givers, addiction or addictive behavior.
Realizing that individuals need community and the community needs the individuals, the end result of Emmaus Ministry is the integration of the person cared for with the community of faith and the community of faith with the person cared for.
