We look forward to learning with you and your family this year!

"Witness the Word" is our them as we embark on another academic year - a year in which we strive to strengthen our faith life.  We witness the Word of God in the scriptures we open and share with one another, in our relationships as family, friends and parish.  In a sense we become Christ to one another.

This year our L.I.F.E. Program will reshape itself in the way we witness the Word.  Faith Formation for the elementary years through Grade 8 will for the most part, meet on Wednesday evenings.  At the same time Adult Catechesis is offered for parents and parishioners.  Grades 9 through 11 will meet on Sundays.  Most other activities that were previously scheduled will remain.  The other sacramental programs will remain much the same as well.  Please consult the information below.

Six Wednesday nights this year will be used for an Inter-generational Faith Formation Program.  These Wednesdays will begin with Mass, followed by supper.  Following supper there will be a planned activity in the church for parishioners of all ages.  More information on the activity portion of these evenings will be posted in the Parish Bulletin.  We look forward to seeing parishioners of all generations together on these special Wednesday evenings!

On behalf of our Parish Staff I wish you God's special blessings as we "Witness the Word" this academic year!

Msgr. Tim

L.I.F.E.

Holy Rosary Catholic Community began L.I.F.E. six years ago.

This year we are making a bit of a change to the format we have used in the past.  These changes are more in format than they are in substance. L.I.F.E. will be held six times from September 2009 through April 2010 (see schedule below) and will be a community-wide gathering jointly attended by all generations from pre-school through great grandparents.  Each of the six intergenerational celebrations will begin with Mass at 5:45 p.m. in the Church followed by a supper meal and celebration offering Catholic Christian teaching

Adult Catechesis - On Wednesdays L.I.F.E. is not scheduled, we will meet and devote our study to the next Sunday's Mass readings (similar to previous years).  We will begin and end on the children's schedule (6:30-7:30 p.m.). This is similar to previous years except that there will be no meal or gathering for common prayer.
Child care is provided.

Why Catholic?

Why Catholic? is a small group process developed by Renew International and endorsed by the Diocese.  Why Catholic? offers a solid approach to help adults form their Catholic faith and connect its teachings to their everyday lives.  With its exploration of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, this process encourages learning in a prayerful small-group setting.  The faith-sharing materials offer 12 sessions on Catholic beliefs with direct Catechism quotes, scriptural references and reflection questions.  This year the text is called Christian Prayer:  Deepening My Experience of God.  Part 1 focuses on prayer itself and how God communicates with us and begins to look at different forms of prayer and some difficulties we experience in prayer.  Part 2 continues to look at the forms and difficulties and concludes with a deeper look at the prayer Jesus taught us, the Lord's Prayer.  You choose the time that is convenient for you.  Most groups will meet for six sessions in the fall and six sessions during Lent and will begin the week of October 4.    Adults
Mom's Group
Mom's Group meets on Saturday morning once a month beginning in October.  This group of young mothers come together to support one another in faith and fellowship.  We follow a format of prayer and ritual, personal journaling and reflection.  It is led by a facilitator.  We enjoy each other's company over coffee.  Childcare is offered during this time.  For information, please contact Jean at 847-1393.
Bible Study Programs
This year we are offering five different bible studies, all developed and presented by the acclaimed scholar and lecturer Jeff Cavins.  All five studies will be offered at times shown with additional times to be determined by the participants.   Adults
1.  The Great Adventure Bible Timeline
This Bible Study program provides a 'big picture' approach to Scripture through a study of 14 narrative books of the bible.  This helps Catholics to connect the entire bible into a chronological story of salvation history that teaches the bible as a complete story, and present the story in a way that is easy to remember.   Sunday morning and Tuesday evening.
2.  Adventures in Matthew
Building directly on the foundation laid in The Great Adventure Timeline, Adventures in Matthew focuses on Jesus as the fulfillment of the promises of the Old Testament.  It also touches on Jesus' establishment of the church as the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.  Set in the rich context of Christ's Jewish culture, this study helps us to understand the universal truths of the Kingdom of God and it will help you to understand more fully God's will for each of us today.
3.  Adventures in Acts
This is a 20-week study of the Acts of the Apostles and the story of the earliest days of the Church.  This shows how Christ's work continues through each of us in the Church today.  Here's where we "find ourselves in the Story we learned" in the Bible Timeline Study.
4.  Revelation - "The Kingdom Yet to Come"    (10 part study)
In this intriguing look at one of the most talked-about books in Scripture, Jeff Cavins explores Revelation to demonstrate how the Kingdom established by Christ in His Church is intimately connected with the Kingdom of Heaven, especially through the celebration of the Mass.    Thursday afternoon
5.  James:  Pearls for Wise Living       (10 part study)
James is one of the most practical books of the Bible.  Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues faced by ordinary Christians in everyday life.  These teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith.     Tuesday morning at 9:00 and Sunday evening
Liturgy of the Word for Children
This catechesis for young children takes place in the context of the Sunday Eucharist celebration year round during 9:00 a.m. Mass.  After the Opening Prayer, children are sent forth to break open God's Word on an age-appropriate level.  Children who have already received First Eucharist will return for the remaining Liturgy while younger children are free to stay for specific activities that continue to explore the Gospel Story.      Preschool-Grade 5
Wednesday Morning Scripture Study with Matthew/Mark/Luke/John
Wednesday mornings immediately following Mass (normally 10:00 a.m.) we gather to discuss the scripture readings that will be proclaimed at the following weekend liturgies.  It takes place in the parish living room in a relaxed atmosphere over coffee and fellowship.  We search and explore for the meaning of the Word of God in the here and now of our lives.    Year round      Adult
4 year olds through 6th Grade
Age-specific catechesis covering Catholic Tradition, teaching, and Scripture, 6:30-7:30 p.m.  An Adult learning opportunity (see description above) is offered during your child's class time.
7th & 8th Grades
The 7th and 8th grade program is developed to meet the adolescent's educational, spiritual and social needs.  Format will include large group activities using videos, crafts, and Bible Study as well as small group discussion.  Some evenings will be spent in a youth group atmosphere.  An Adult learning opportunity is offered during your child's class time.
9th Grade
9th Grade program will meet on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. beginning October 4th.  This year's focus will be Theology of the Body for Teens, which is a study of God and the purpose of our existence, as discovered and revealed through our bodies.  Beginning this year, 9th grade classes are a pre-requisite to Confirmation.
